Whether you run a locksmith shop adding a key line, or a distributor sourcing for resale, the first wholesale order decides how the relationship goes.
Whether you run a locksmith shop adding a key line, or a distributor sourcing for resale, the first wholesale order decides how the relationship goes. This guide is the checklist we would use ourselves when buying car keys wholesale - use it before you commit to any supplier, including us.
Comparing suppliers? Message us your market and target models - we will quote MOQ, samples and shipping honestly.
💬 Ask on WhatsAppA reasonable starting MOQ for car keys is around 5 units per SKU, with the ability to mix models in one order. That lets you test the five most popular vehicles in your market instead of betting on one. If a supplier demands a huge MOQ for your first order, ask what happens to dead stock - you are taking the risk.
Never buy 'free samples' as a business model - a serious supplier prices samples at wholesale cost and deducts them from your first bulk order. Order samples of 3-5 mainstream models (for the UK/EU: VW Golf, Ford Focus/Transit; for Australia: Toyota Hilux, Holden Commodore, Mazda CX-5) and test them with your own programmer before scaling.
Ask exactly what you are getting: genuine OEM parts, OEM circuit boards in aftermarket shells (the value sweet spot - identical electronics, lower price), or full aftermarket units. Verify with a test key before you stock a model in volume.
Typical air delivery: UK 5-8 days, mainland Europe 5-10 days, Australia 7-14 days. Ask who handles customs: default is DAP (you pay duties/VAT on arrival), but for regular volume some suppliers quote DDP on popular lanes. For Australia, watch the low-value threshold - it changes the maths on small shipments.
A fair policy covers DOA and defective units with replacement or credit when you report within a defined window (e.g. 14 days) with photo/video evidence. Keys damaged by incorrect programming are usually excluded - which is why free programming guidance and identification support matter as much as the warranty itself.
No clear MOQ or pricing transparency; no testing process mentioned; no warranty in writing; no one who can identify a key from a photo; answers that are always 'yes' without asking about your car's year, region and equipment. The best suppliers ask questions before they quote.
